Maryland Fried Chicken Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The food: Outstanding fried chicken - way better than KFC or Famous Recipe. Mashed/gravy & Cole slaw average. The Service: " our setup is arranged for FAST--NO WAITING--SERVICE" (from the box... emphasis THEIRS!). What a load of crap. We had to wait 1/2 hour for our order (guy taking my order said a 'few minutes'). I did get to hang out with the local vagrants while I waited which offered some mild entertainment, albeit slightly unnerving... They didn't even say sorry for the wait! May order the chicken again some time, but will definitely call ahead.

First time coming to a restaurant like this so I had to try it to see how I like it. They offer chicken, shrimp, fish. I had the chicken and french fries with BBQ sauce but I had to pay extra for that. They have soft drinks, soda, sweet tea and unsweet tea as well. The staff here are very nice, friendly and helpful. The place is busy during the lunch times from what I have seen when I am on that side of town. The chicken that I had was crispy and some what greasy can't stand that but over all taste it was cooked well on the inside which what I like. The sweet tea was delicious on this hot summer day. Keep in mind they only take cash only no credit cards but lucky enough CVS is across the street so you don't have to go far to a bank or to gas station to use a ATM machine.

Delicious, hot fried chicken! Creamy, sweet chopped cole slaw, perfectly fried fries. Baked beans taste like they are from a can. They were court of the deviled crab when we went, but we'll be back to try it! A little pricey, average about $10 per person. There is a small dining area- nothing fancy, they also have a take out window.

Know one thing before walking through the doors of this establishment -- THEY ACCEPT CASH ONLY! Located on the corner of Thonotosassa and Alexander Street in the quaint little town of Plant City ...this MFC opened its doors back in 1969. Their claim to fame is that they pressure cook the chicken in peanut oil -- the delicious breading consisting of 21 secret herbs and spices (I was thinking this sounded more like KFC - LOL). We made the trek over to Plant City and could immediately see upon arrival that there was a line out the door. With cash in hand we waited for about 15 minutes before our order was taken at the counter. There are not many tables available (first come first served) therefore most people get "take out". They offer a variety of fried chicken and seafood. I was tempted by their fried okra but decided just to go with the fried chicken. It was tender and delicious. The sides were small (see photo) the potato salad and coleslaw were ok -- I remember the mashed potatoes and gravy being above average. All chicken dinners include a choice of two sides(potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, french fries, or mashed potatoes/gravy and a roll). They offer all white meat for an extra cost. They also offer individual orders of onion rings, breaded okra, breaded mushrooms, and corn dogs. Looked as if they had a few sandwiches (steak, chicken and fish) all seasoned / breaded. If you are counting calories -- forget about anything here being low fat -- it is all fried! We all have to splurge once in awhile, right? We will try MFC again, however going to try the seafood next time.

Simple, great fried chicken. Keep it simple. Cole slaw very good as well. Great service as one of the owners of this family business is almost always on hand. They don't take credit, so be sure to bring some folding bills.

I have heard of this place from friends and decided to give it a try, the food is Good!!! But i had to take it to go because the place was crowded at lunch time. Nice experience and food, however needs more seating capacity

I'm a local and I can't say enough about this food. It's absolutely the best fried chicken! I generally eat here once a week. The chicken is fried in Peanut oil and is the difference when comparing to other chicken joints. If you read anything but great reviews, keep in mind the tastes which I love, is different. My wife does not like it, but different strokes for different folks. If you've never tried it..... It is definitely worth the drive! There should be one of these in every town. Marc

Best chicken ever! Small wings but super juicy! I think it's fine to start trying other things on the menu

  • Cathi L.

I have been eating here for 18 years and it is by far the best fried chicken I have ever had.. I am only here for 4 months outta the year and I will eat here at least twice a week sometimes 3 or 4 times . The chicken is always hot and delicious. The Cole slaw is creamy and soo good. The service is always impeccable and it is always clean. I can't say enough good things about this place other then do yourself a favor and eat here.

  • Josiah G.

Damn good fried chicken. There is nothing fancy here and there doesn't need to be. It is just perfected fried chicken with some pretty tasty sides. It is definitely worth the drive for me and I'm coming from South Tampa. There's just nothing like it in Tampa.

  • Heather G.

I'm not sure why this place is legendary...everyone in the area knows about it and it has a great reputation, but my husband and I found didn't find anything special about it. The baked beans were the tastiest part of the meal...the shrimp, chicken and fries were fine -- not great, but fine. My stepmom said she thinks the one in Lakeland is gross, meaning too greasy for her. We won't be making any special trips back there but wouldn't argue if someone really wanted to go there for lunch.

  • Nikki G.

I had the 3 piece chicken dinner with baked beans and mashed potatoes. The chicken was good, but the sides were OK. Will be back!

  • Neil A.

Great chicken at a great price! The sweet tea is just what you expect out of a family restaurant in the South. I wish the parking was better, but the service is good, and the food is great.

    (5)
  • Rich N.

Yep, like everyone says, except for the one who said it wasn't worth a 40 min drive, it's the BEST chicken ever! I remember going to a Maryland Fried Chicken in Dunedin, FL when I was a kid in the early 1970's and this brings me right back to then! I drive about an hour at least twice a year JUST for their chicken and small town atmosphere! Yummmmmy!

Best fried chicken! I know this place has been around for a very long time but it has been my latest obsession. It's kind of fast food style chicken as far as the location and the offerings but the chicken is awesome. I've always gotten very hot, fresh chicken. The skin/breading is crispy and flavorful but not overly greasy or fatty. They have the typical sides such as mashed potatoes, potato salad etc. There isn't really a veggie selection save the breaded mushrooms. But who cares, you go for the chicken. I've seen on their menu that they have shrimp and fish baskets too but I haven't tried those yet. Chicken, it's alllll abou the chicken. The actual restaurant itself is pretty dated, there's a small amount of seating inside and there's a window on the outside if you just want to take it to go. The place is always very, very clean. The staff is typically comprised of what looks like to be high schoolers, however, the service is quite friendly and polite. Go here and you won't be disappointed.

I am not sure who posted that this place was out of business but they are very much open and doing well. They have been in business since 1969 and have the best fried chicken in the world hands down. they are a CASH ONLY business. if you forget just go across the street and at CVS you can buy something for a dollar and get cash back. The coleslaw here is the best i have ever eaten. so creamy. This is a Plant City must if you are in town visiting and I promise you that you will not find better fried chicken anywhere.

Maryland Fried Chicken serves literally the best fried chicken I have ever had in my life, and that comes with growing up in South Carolina- where everyone has "the best". I'm sorry grandma, but this chain does something no one else can replicate...the crunchy skin + tenderness of the chicken + explosion of flavor = tastebud explosion. This may also sound strange, but their ketchup is really good- and I don't think I have ever observed that anywhere else before. Oh well, maybe you will too. I was excited when I found out there was a MFC in the area when I moved to Tampa and this particular location doesn't disappoint. The people inside are very nice and super fast. It is cash only, which prohibits me from eating there as much as I would like...but maybe that is a good thing for my waist line. Also, parking is a bit tight because the place is small...but they do have a separate window for to-go/pickup orders!

After reading all the positive reviews, I thought lets give it a try, since I have been graving good old fashion fried chicken, to my disappointment, the fried chicken was average, I wasn't worth me driving 40 minutes for it.

I like Church's, Popeye's and KFC (in that order), but I love Maryland's fried chicken! Covered in a lightly seasoned batter and fried in peanut oil, it gives it a great taste. Place your order in the front, pay for it and have a seat if you're dining in. I usually get the 2 piece dinner which comes with 2 sides and a roll. You can choose all white, mixed or all dark. I think the all white a little extra. Add a sweet tea and you're good to go. They also have fried fish, but why do that? Stick with the chicken! It gets crowded quick and it's a bit small on the inside, so get there early to get a seat. An even better idea is to call ahead.

  • Mark H.

Best fried chicken I've ever had outside of my grandma's kitchen in STL. The side portions are small, but flavorful and you shouldn't leave hungry. Get a 3 piece and two sides with an iced tea and you'll be good to go! The only dissatisfier: CASH ONLY!!

Stellar Chicken, fast friendly service and a clean and well maintained older structure. Sides such as mashed potatoes/gravy could use some tweaking but Maryland's my favorite chicken spot anywhere.

Amazing fried chicken. But bring cash. No credit cards accepted. Lacking decor, but worth it. Gravy on potatoes is chicken based and yummy. Sweet tea is also pretty good.

Better than any of the other chains and has definitely become a PC landmark! Great fried chicken and sides (esp cole slaw & mashed taters). I mean, not my favorite style of fried chicken (I like a light dredging), but still better than any other you can find and for a better price than most.
